a dialogue with the self

Like every Sunday, I pass a few hours volunteering at a bookshop — that’s my most favourite time of the week, for sure. Not many clients were there, nor did we receive any donations, thus I had time to simply gaze and even to read. What a funny thought, I tried to wade through almost four books, but none of them reclaimed my spirit. First I dealt with May Sarton, then I met María Zambrano, followed by Rafael Argullol, and finally Emil Cioran. My mind wanders a lot these days. I pray that I will pick up a title soon to match my heart — oh, certainly, poetry will get me out of this state. I still prefer to read poems rather than novels. Why? For the same reason given by May Sarton: ‘[…] because the poem is, in a first form, a dialogue with the self, while the novel is a dialogue with others. Both come from completely different ways of being. I assume I’ve written novels to find out what I thought about something, and I’ve written poems to find out what I felt about something.’

Literary Goal for June— ☕ tip of appreciation

📖 La huella de la mariposa by Mahmud Darwix

About the literary goal: I find that I simply love books more than anything else and that it would be unfair to my soul if I would not read them. Therefore, it comes to my mind the idea of creating a literary goal. Every month I intend to acquire a book — the purchase may be made by my own efforts, that is to say, through writing. If you find my commitment rewarding and decide to support me, you are welcome to invite me for a coffee. Thank you for your kindness!
